EXPERIENCE
A character advances in power by gaining experience. Each character needs a
set amount of experience points for each level based on the number of creation
points used in customization.
Experience is gained by:
Killing a monster.
Being part of a group that kills a monster.
Increasing proficiency in a skill or spell.
Experience is lost by:
Fleeing from combat.
Recalling out of combat.
Being the target of certain spells (e.g. energy drain).
Dying.
The experience you get from a kill depends on several things: how many players
are in the group; character level versus the level of the monster; your
alignment versus the monster's alignment; how many of this monster have been
killed lately; how long it has been in real time hours since last level, and
some random variation.
With enough experience, a character may attain a level, and there are 91 mortal
levels available. Upon reaching a new level the character will improve
somewhat in all areas.
Hit points, mana points, and movement points will all increase. Practices
(based on wisdom) will be gained. A train will be gained. New skills and
spells may become available, etc.
The experience required per level is based on the character's "creation
points". Additionally the exp per level will increase by a small amount each
level. Most players agree that more than about 90-100 cp is a very bad idea.
It is possible, through special guildmasters, to lower the creation points
and thereby lower experience required per level. See GAIN for more
information.
