DUELING
A duel is a pre-arranged fight between consenting characters. It is usually
between two combatants, but can also encompass brawls with many people
involved. The important consideration is that all parties involved consent
to the fight.
Dueling may bypass the multi-killing rule with regards to killing the same
person more than once per day ONLY if all the duelists involved consent.
Make absolutely sure everyone involved understands BEFORE the fight starts.
Usually, duels are fought with rules. Some examples follow, but are not
necessarily true with all duels:
No looting. This includes items from corpses in the case of death as well
as any items dropped during the duel (e.g. disarmed weapons).
No use of items or spells which damage or destroy equipment.
No willful fleeing. This includes the dreaded flee/backstab routine.
No WIMPY settings. See fleeing above.
No charm or sleep. Not much point in dueling if these are used.
No saccing or donating of equipment dropped during the duel.
Whatever the rules are (if any), they should be agreed upon before the fight
begins and should be adhered to by all parties involved. If not, then the
fight is NOT a duel.
Not all duels must end in death, but if death does occur: As a loser it's
usually wise to ask the victor(s) if it is acceptable to return. Don't run
back instantly to retrieve items. As a victor, do not multi-kill someone
unless the situation warrants it... you better have a good reason. Doing this
in a duel without a good reason is a good way to get slain by the Immortals.
In brawls with many people involved, wait until the brawl ends before going
back to retreive your possessions. Otherwise, you may be killed again from
incidental damage. Returning too soon and grabbing equipment can also result
in a horrific mess if you happen to get equipment from the wrong corpse, or get
half-equipped and then die again from a stray fire breath. You have been
warned.
Note: The most common non-arena duelling ground is the Eastern Road, between
Midgaard and New Thalos. This road has seen countless duels and has
become quite famous in its own right. It is said that if you listen
to the ground, you can hear the cries of victory and death from ages past.
