LINKDEAD

"Linkdead" means the player's computer has lost its link with the MUD server
but the character that player is running is still in the game.  Dropping the
link does not immediately cause the character to quit.

Linkdeath can occur in many ways:  intentional, accidental, or otherwise.  In
terms of game mechanics, the (LINKDEAD) flag will not appear on a character
until approximately 60-120 seconds have passed.  This is mainly to keep people
from intentionally dropping link to escape a bad situation.  A character that
is flagged as linkdead cannot be attacked by other players.  Attempting to
harm in any way a character flagged linkdead is a very good way to find
oneself spanked, slain, frozen, or locked up in the dungeon for a LONG time -
don't do it.

It is possible for someone to have lost their link with the MUD and not be
flagged.  In general, if you are lagging badly, take this into consideration
and expect the worst (if it's really THAT bad, come back later).  For those
who find themselves facing an opponent who claims to have "lagged out" or
dropped link, it never hurts to take someone at their word, as long as they
don't continue to use this excuse time and time again.  Be kind, it may happen
to you one day.
